Greek Regulators and Researchers Add Support for M-Lab
The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT), Greece's telecommunications regulator, along with The Greek Research and Technology Network (GRnet), who provide network capacity for Greece's research and academic community, have joined M-Lab as Supporting Partners, providing new servers and connectivity in Athens, Greece. You can read their press release in English and in Greek.
EETT has already been working actively to provide useful information about broadband networks to the public. Through a central Web portal, users can access a map of broadband availability and advertised speeds in Greece. EETT aims to incorporate data collected through M-Lab into this map, so that users will be able to compare broadband providers' and their Internet connection's performance along a number of dimensions. Needless to say, we're excited to collaborate to make this happen.
Counting these servers in Athens, M-Lab now boasts a total of 38 nodes between the US and Europe, including two new locations in Amsterdam and Paris.
